Infant and Child Development Program

Text Sizer

The Infant and Child Development program is a family-centred program serving children from birth to age 5 who have a developmental disability and/or risk of developmental delay. A medical diagnosis is not required to access this program.

Infants learn about their world by looking, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling and moving. This learning generally follows a predictable path and new abilities are acquired in generally the same order for most children. For those whose progress may be at risk, program professionals support families to identify and plan developmental goals, and work with children to help them achieve those goals. Additionally, support is provided to access and coordinate other relevant community services, where appropriate. During scheduled home visits, routine and play-based activities to promote physical, intellectual, and social/emotional learning are recommended.

Referrals are accepted from families, service agencies, physicians, etc. with the consent of the parent or guardian. Infant and Child Development services are available to families and children residing in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

The Infant and Child Development Program is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
