CSBD NOTICE

One-Stop Multidisciplinary Clinic Pilot

Counselling Services of Belleville and District is offering a new pilot service in partnership with the Quinte Children Treatment Centre (QCTC), available July 20, 2022 to March 31, 2023, for children with Autism. This Pilot has been created as a community response to the clinical needs of families with children that receive funding through the Ontario Autism Program and is a 1-year grant from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

The purpose of this Clinic Pilot is to create access to a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), Occupational Therapist (OT) and a Behaviour Therapist all within one appointment through a monthly multidisciplinary clinic. Priority will be given to families current on waitlists or not accessing services. A multidisciplinary approach improves client outcomes to ensure all necessary goal areas are targeted in an effective and cohesive manner. By hosting 3 core clinical disciplines under one roof, CSBD hopes to alleviate travel, time and stress costs to families who would benefit from a multidisciplinary approach, and those who are currently waitlisted and awaiting to access direct core clinical services in the short-term. A copy of the recommended action plan will be shared with the families after each appointment to retain for yourself or share with clinicians or your child’s school.

Please note to families that this service focuses on skills building and operates as a mediator-led model where family members are necessary to implement recommended strategies and outcomes post-appointment. This service is NOT a crisis support.

Appointments are held monthly in Belleville and Madoc, and on alternating months in Picton and Trenton. Each location will offer up to 4 one hour and a half appointments (in-person or virtually) per their monthly clinic day at each location. Appointment slots will be filled on a first-come, first-service basis. The need for a follow up will be discussed with you during your appointment.

Trenton Clinics will be scheduled the first Wednesday of each month, Picton and Madoc clinics will be scheduled for the second Wednesday of every other month, and Belleville Clinics will be scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month.

In order to qualify for this new service, your child or children must:

  • Be registered under OAP.
  • Not currently receiving services, or be waitlisted for service – this is not an exclusive criteria as their application will be reviewed for qualification, but priority will be given to families currently not accessing any services.
  • Be 18 years or younger.
  • Identify and prioritize a goal area for their appointment. This goal area cannot address significant aggression or self-injurious behaviour.

There is no cost associated to accessing this service during the 1-year pilot.
